Universities and the labor market: interdependence

 

 

Should higher education institutions prepare students for their first job? Or are Universities and  universities a space for academic development, increasing the level of education, and developing creativity?

Or maybe a university is a place where one acquires professional knowledge, skills, and abilities?

An interesting discussion arose this week, which divided stakeholders and experts in the education system into two camps. So I will add my point of view, taking into account current challenges and the experience of other telemarketing data countries.

I want to start with Donald Trump’s recent statement about the need for changes in the US education system: “When I return to Universities and  the White House, I will fire all these ‘accreditors’ who have allowed Marxists and lunatics to dominate our colleges… We will have a true American education.”

What does business expect ?

Business is not interested in the number of books read or how the educational process at the university is structured. Business asks a specific question, what competencies a future employee possesses. It is education that feeds the economy with personnel, not the other way around.

Employers, whether they have a desire/idea to create you mentioned wage slavery their own business, do not ask about grades and success, they ask a clear question: can the graduate perform practical tasks with the ability to further professional development.

In the process of developing a student’s personality, the university must reduce the qualification gap. This is a priority task, because knowledge, skills, and abilities are the currency of the economy, and if a student possesses them, he will easily find his place in the labor market or professional growth. The global and Ukrainian trend of HR departments is “skills at the top.”

The effectiveness of public investment in higher education
The state must create conditions and finance the training of lack data specialists who shape the value-added economy. State investments in higher education should be a strategy for the development of society.
