The social networks have become the encyclopedia header for many people, fatal mistake. There is a myriad of misleading digital advertising , false data, dangerous products that are available to all those who have an Internet connection and those who spread it only seek to affect those who believe their lies. A clear example of this occurred this week, when the Costa Rica Email List hashtag #BorderFreeCoffee began to run through social networks , which is a campaign “Dreamer Day” or “Dreamer of the day” (in Spanish), for undocumented immigrants in the United States which is totally false. This campaign offered discount coupons in order for people to make their immigration status known.
It was commented that behind this false campaign was the 4chan forum, a group of Internet users who launched the campaign on social networks for hundreds of undocumented people to come to the Starbucks store and once they were there they could call ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement for their acronym in English) and could be arrested. This is not the first time that through the Internet and social networks false and dangerous promises have been made to immigrants, who due to their illegal status are frequent victims, this has happened for a long time which increased with the arrival of Donald Trump to the presidency of the United States. A couple of months ago, a non-profit organization called New Beginning for Immigrants Rights, Inc. was sued for selling false identity cards that protected the undocumented from deportation by guaranteeing immunity from immigration,
the cost of this card ranged from the $ 50 to $ 200 that immigrants for fear of being detained and deported spent relying on this false promise. Easy access to the Internet makes those seeking support vulnerable to uncertain sources. Another case of this type of deception occurred last year when Salvadorean Legal Services, an alleged league of lawyers, dealt with cases of legal problems to illegal Salvadorans in the US, in their social networks they offered to legalize their situation. After being sued, it was revealed that this law b2 cfax firm was not licensed to practice law in the state of California. Social networks are an excellent place to publicize a brand, generate engagement and create loyalty among followers, unfortunately not all people use them for a good purpose. They use social channels to take advantage of people who do not have many options to search for valid information, or enough knowledge. What do you think about these behaviors on social networks ?
